The conference «ENERGETIKA XXI: Economy, Policy, Ecology» was founded in 2007 by initiative of Alexey Miller, the Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom.
In 2007 the Organizational Committee received a 10-year target – to enter the pool of world-leading Science & Research conferences in the area of Energy Economy along with conferences of the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei, Energy Delta Institute etc.
The Conference is based on the «triple helix» model throughout participation of science, business and government representatives in order to reach higher efficiency.
Nowadays the Conference has become an important international platform for discussion of recent developments in energy sector global-wise and in Russia in particular. The Conference traditionally gathers leading European and Russian experts, including the Oxford Institute for Energy Studies, International Energy Agency, the Energy Charter and others.
In such a fast changing environment it is vital to ensure open dialogue in energy sphere. The conference «Energetika XXI» provides space for the wide circle of academic, business and governmental experts to discuss questions of cooperation and development.

Igor Maksimtsev is a Russian economist, rector of Saint Petersburg State University of Economics, Doctor of Economics, Chairman of Saint Petersburg branch of International Higher Education Academy of Sciences. Igor Maksimtsev heads the working group “Science and Education” of the Forum “Petersburg Dialogue”. Igor Maksimtsev is a member of editorial board of several Russian economic journals as the Herald of the Russian Academy of Sciences, chief editor of the journal “Creative Economy”. Mr. Maksimtsev is the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Chile in Saint Petersburg.

James Ball was the chairman of the Executive Committee of international energy company Cheniere Energy, Inc . Since 2011 Mr. Ball has worked as a special advisor of the consulting company in energy - Tachebois Limited. From 2011 until 2013 Mr. Ball had been a non-executive director of Gas Strategies Group Ltd, the company which deals with consulting in commercial energy. From 1988 until August 2011 James Ball was an executive director in Gas Strategies Group Ltd. Mr. Ball is also a staff member in Institute of Energy and Institute of Gas Engineering and Management.

Dmitry Vasilenko is a vice-rector for International Relations at St. Petersburg State University of Economics, a vice-president of Baltic Sea Region University Network. Since 2007 Dmitry Vasilenko has been a deputy chairman of the Conference Organizing Committee and a member of the Program Committee. Mr. Vasilenko is one of the organizers of the Summer School Program “Baltic Energy in Changing Energy Landscape”.

After leaving the Secretariat of the Energy Charter in 2010 Ralf Dickel became an independent expert in international energy trade. From 2004 until 2010 Mr. Dickel was a director on transit and trade in the Secretariat of Energy Charter. Until then from 2001 Mr. Dickel was the head of the department of energy diversification at IEA and was responsible for political analysis on energy markets and the reform of energy market. Before his career at IEA Ralf Dickel was a senior specialist (oil and gas policy) in the World Bank. From 1980 until 1998 his career was connected with Ruhrgas, where Mr. Dickel had different top leadership positions both in gas purchasing division and gas sales division. Ralf Dickel is a supervisor and co-author of several publications by IEA and the Energy Charter.

At the present time Peter Klingenberger gives lectures on gas and hydrogen storage in famous European universities.

Michael Kranhold – electrical engineer, MBA degree (Kellogg-WHU). Mr. Kranhold has a wide experience in different fields of network business in Central Dispatch Office of the eastern European transmission grids in Prague and also in legal ancestors of 50Hertz in Berlin. Michael Kranhold worked in systems management, transmission planning, energy management, corporate development and controlling. Mr. Kranhold is awarded the title of Doctor Honoris Causa by St. Petersburg State University of Economics.

As a professor of the Nord University Petter Nore also has a position of director and the Head of the Department at Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). Mr. Nore has a wide work experience in energy sector: Ministry of oil and energy, oil company Saga Petroleum (senior vice-president), the World Bank (senior economist in energy) and Norsk Hydro (senior vice-president). Petter Nore is the leading Norwegian expert on Norwegian and international energy sector. Mr. Nore was the member of the World Bank Committee on mining industry (2002-2004).

Andy Calitz is the former Chief Executive Officer of LNG Canada, a Shell-PETRONAS-PetroChina-Mitsubishi Corporation-Kogas joint venture. Mr. Calitz began his career in the electricity business and joined Shell in 1996, where he has spent more than 25 years on various energy projects. His work has taken him to London, Moscow, Beijing, Tokyo, Perth, The Hague, and Vancouver, where he held a variety of roles in business development, project management, and commercial aspects of the Shell business. He was also member of the development teams for the Sakhalin Energy and Gorgon LNG projects. Mr. Calitz was educated as an electrical engineer at the University of Stellenbosch in South Africa, with further qualifications in commerce, management, and business administration at the Harvard Business School; the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa; and INSEAD. He now assists companies, organizations, think tanks and universities navigating the energy transitions. Since 1st August 2021 Mr. Calitz has been appointed as a Secretary-General of the IGU .

Marc-Antoine Eyl-Mazzega joined Ifri's Center for Energy & Climate as a Director in September 2017. Prior to joining IFRI, he spent six years at the International Energy Agency (IEA), notably as Russia & Sub-Saharan Africa Programme Manager where he conducted oil and gas market analyses and was responsible for institutional relations with these countries and regions. He also held various other positions, such as at the Robert Schuman Foundation, where he was in charge of a Ukraine observatory. A French and German national, he holds a Ph.D. from Sciences Po Paris in international relations.
